High season: ask a week ahead
December to April the town doubles. The room does not. Here is when to ask and when to just walk in.

Playa del Carmen has two calendars. From December to April the town roughly doubles, and every table between the beach and Fifth Avenue is spoken for by nine. From May to November the same streets are half empty by midnight.
What that means for a room of twelve tables
The house does not grow with the season. In high season the Friday and Saturday tables are gone three or four days ahead, and the nights with a name in the calendar go faster than that.
Wednesday and Thursday are the exception, all year. If you want the room at its best — the bar full, the floor not yet — those are the two nights to come.
How far ahead to ask
A week in high season, two or three days the rest of the year, and the same day if you are two people who do not mind sitting at the bar. There is no season in which we cannot fit two people at the bar.
And if you are coming for something specific — a guest, a birthday, a group of more than six — ask early regardless of the month. Those are the ones we have to turn away.
