The nights

Vinyl nights, and why the booth is small

Two decks and a wall of records. What that changes is not the sound, it is the pace.

24 April 2026

The booth is two decks, a mixer and about a metre of space. It was not built small to look good in a photograph. It was built small because everything in it has to be within reach of one pair of hands.

What vinyl changes

Not the sound — that argument is older than the room and nobody wins it. What changes is the pace. A record lasts what it lasts, and knowing that the next one has to be chosen in five minutes keeps a set honest.

It also means the night cannot be planned in advance. Whoever is playing has to look up, see the room and decide. That is the whole point of a floor this size.

The nights that are vinyl only

One a week, always announced in the calendar, and always without a guest. The house takes the booth and plays until the room decides it is done.

If you want to see what the room sounds like without anything helping it, that is the night.
